What do you do when people build public genealogy trees that make no sense?
First of all- let’s get to the why.
When we research our ancestors, we rely on documents and sources. At the end of the day, we have to make conclusions and draw inferences based on those facts.
This is where things get dicey.
Unfortunately, people make conclusions that don’t always have the highest burden of proof. Some people rely on their intuition, feelings, bias, and desires for their genealogical conclusions! This behavior will continue to happen and isn’t going away any time soon. Most people don’t have PhD’s and that’s okay. After all, people are people.
I think the best bet is to use other trees for clues and to not worry about the ‘wrong’ trees. I always recommend that you have your own tree offline or separate from others. There are still many benefits to having the connected and public trees to use for reference and insights. I personally LOVE familysearch.org and the One World Tree.
Genealogy should be fun and entertaining! Don’t let them get you down.
